1 Timothy 2 v 9 - 15 - Controversial Stuff
okay so today's is called Controversial Stuff, and today will especially be looking at women. If you know me at all, this kinda stuff can really get to me, but we'll see what Paul says!
v9-10
Paul starts by saying women should wear clothes that show respect and self control, not using braids, gold, pearls or expensive clothes. so not adorned by the manner of the world, but of God. This follows on from men lifting their hands in worship, so can mean women's duties within public worship but I think it also applies, like all the time. And the whole self control, respecting clothes isn't to do with being like desirable, but dressing appropriately. So a woman should dress to not distract herself from God. Like "such as to show that her mind is supremely fixed on higher and more important things". This is shown as the next verse talks about women doing good deeds.
v11-13
The next bit links in with 1 Corinthians 14 v 35 - 36 so i will paste it here.
1 Corinthians 14 v 34 - 36 "women should keep quiet in the church meetings. They are not allowed to speak, but they must yield to this rule as the law says. If they want to learn something, they should ask their own husbands at home. It is shameful for a woman to speak in the church meeting."
1 Timothy 2 v 11 -13 "Let a woman learn by listening quietly and being ready to cooperate in everything. But I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to listen quietly, because Adam was formed first and then Eve."
1 Timothy is saying to let a woman learn via listening and being ready to cooperate. So yeah, that's fine. Okay, so having authority over women, we talked about on UBM how men have spiritual dominance over women and stuff. And these women in this place were not accepting the teachings of the church leaders and generally being pretty disruptive, so it's saying that they should ask their husbands in their own homes, instead of being disruptive within the church. Adam was formed before Eve, and like the stereotypical man is dominant over women, no one wants a sissy man. And it's not saying women can't do stuff in church, just that they do not have authority over them. So, men and women should stick to their God given roles. Men are suited to having authority over women.
v14-15
So, it says Eve was tricked so she's the sinner. This means that Adam wasn't tempted in the first place, as Eve was. A notes this on the bible says that Eve took the dominance over Adam in the fall, and that's another example that women shouldn't have spiritual dominance. But then it says that women will be saved through having children if she still has faith love holiness and self control. This doesn't mean by having children she is saved, because obviously, quite a lot of women would be saved. It's referring to Genesis 3:16 "Then God said to the woman, "I will cause you to have much trouble when you are pregnant, and when you give birth to children, you will have great pain. You will greatly desire your husband, but he will rule over you."
Application
Right so first off you should live attractive lives, rather than trying to impress others with appearance. And this can apply to guys too, but women are more concerned with appearance that men. Second off, God gave us roles to play, and women should be less dominant over men. It's clear throughout the bible that God wants women to be subordinate and men to have authority, and this is how it should be.
